I just picked up this year's offering of Street & Smith's 06-07 NFL yearbook. It reminds me of Hurricane Katrina because it blows. It is as timid and undaring as it is inaccurate. The names outweigh the talent in their assessment (example: they rate New England's D line a 5 out of 5, but give Jax only 4 out of 5. Seymour is the only stud on NE's line). They spend the first chunk of Jacksonville's "bio" ripping the schedule and the the whole section on Indy saying they won't miss a beat without the Edge. If we had split with Indy and we both finished 13-3 do you think anyone would talk about how they had an easier schedule than we did? I know it sounds as if I am a biased reader cuz the Jags get zero in the love column. But the whole layout is cheesier than my high school yearbook. The extremely brief fantasy section is laughable. Steve Smith is the #12 highest rated player, but he didn't crack the top 100 last year. This mag is extremely short-sighted and doesn't really provide anything more than rosters and schedules. If you are someone who picks up one or two of these mags a season, try Athlon or maybe even Lindy's. They cannot possibly be worse.

They say we're gonna nosedive against tougher competition and actually print that we can "easily start the season 0-4." They spent thousands of man hours coming up with the safest predictions I have ever seen. No insight anywhere. Thumb through it in a store, but don't waste yer cash. They gave us a C+ in the draft too. Of course, bigger name/market teams get all the love. It pisses me off that a national mag can't be objective. We could go 12-4 again and we'd still get the shaft with these writers because they simply refuse to do their homework on this team.

Ah, the life of a small market. We could have done some wheeling and dealing to draft Leinhart and Bush and they'd still give us a C at best.
Our D is going to be so intense, that all we need from teh O is 10 points a game. Yeah, we open with a tough schedule. But the other teams that see us on their schedule consider us a tough oppenent.
Thanks for the heads-up. I will not buy S&S this year.

Athlon is solid. The sheer weight of the magazine is a good indicator as to how much time they spent compiling their facts. Lots of depth. A respectable fantasy section. Great recaps of last year. A nice interview with Steve Smith. They pick Indy, Pitt, NE, and Denver to win their divisions outright and Jax and SD to fill the wild card spots in the AFC. They actually take a chance by having Baltimore take 2nd place in the AFC North over Cincy. They break down each team by position. Its a far superior magazine than the offereing Street & Smith put out. And I usually like S&S.
